Healing

I will lead the blind by ways they have not known, along unfamiliar paths I will guide them; I will turn the darkness into light before them and make the rough places smooth. These are the things I will do; I will not forsake them.

Isaiah 42:16

All of us have been through some heart wrenching, difficult moments in life. I feel like a lot of us don’t talk about them often enough to “normalize” the fact that Christians do face many troubles in this life whether we’re obeying God or not. When I was 16, the internet was just beginning to take off and online journals were all the rage. It was during that time that I felt most alone and was facing a lot of confusion about growing up, dealing with severe childhood trauma, and trying to find my voice so that I could speak out against my abusers. I turned to online journals, not knowing who to ask about what was normal and what wasn’t. I began to find not only a voice, but to realize that I wasn’t the only person struggling to survive and to know God. I found a community of people who understood intuitively what I was going through because they’d been there, too. It was like a balm for my soul. It’s taken me nearly twenty years, but I am in a great place in my life and I have finally found my voice and cut my abusers out of my life. I’m surrounded by a loving family and some really great friends. It has been a long, hard road. Most of the time, I had no idea where God was leading me, and I’ve often questioned His sanity. Sometimes when we’re stumbling through the darkness, it’s tough to recognize that Light is only a few steps away, and that we’re really not alone at any point in our lives. God is so gracious, merciful and loving.
