Homemade body wash
Note: The original recipe came from: http://www.frugalliving.com/ and was altered by me.
This is a really great way to use those free bars of soap we couponers happen upon. (I actually got paid 0.47 to walk in Wal-Mart and “buy” two bars of Olay with Shea Butter soap this week!)
Here’s the super simple recipe. Prep time is about 5 minutes or less with a food processor and 20 minutes with a regular grater.
2 bars soap, finely grated
1 ½ cups water
2 teaspoons vitamin E oil
1 teaspoon olive oil
Combine the grated soap and the water in a saucepan and melt over medium heat, stirring often. This takes about 5 minutes.
Add in the oils and stir. Let cool in saucepan. Pour into clean containers. I used 2 empty Palmolive dish soap bottles.
Just pour a quarter size amount on washcloth or bath sponge. Lather up and rinse off. It feels amazing and leaves dry skin feeling hydrated and smooth. My 4 year old daughter has a severe case of eczema and this instantly made a difference in her condition. I rubbed about a dime size amount of vitamin E oil on her skin after her bath to seal the moisture in. The oil is not greasy and does not rub off on clothes. A little bit goes a very long way.
